The Truth About Gluten
Gluten is the protein found in wheat. This means gluten can be found in bread, crackers, cookies, pizza, and basically all baked goods.
Some people can’t tolerate gluten and eating just one cookie can cause stomach issues or severe illness. This is what is called celiac disease. And it affects more than 300,000 people in the United States alone.
Having Celiac is very frustrating. It’s an extremely restrictive diet and trying to find foods that are not made from gluten is tough.
Gluten-Free Weight Loss
There some people go gluten-free to lose weight, feel healthier, and even boost energy.
Author and cardiologist of Wheat Belly, Dr. William Davis, says that wheat gluten makes you hungrier which causes you to eat more. Davis’s theory is that wheat contains appetite-stimulating compounds that encourage the body to produce more insulin, a hormone that causes you to store fat. He has noted that his average patient will drop 15-20 pounds in a month when they stop eating wheat gluten.
Grocery stores are filled with gluten-free snacks. But many of these foods are dense with sugar and fat. Always read the label because many are laden with artificial flavors, toxic chemicals, saturated fats, and sugar.
Understanding how to properly bake gluten-free is both an art and a science. Bart & Judy’s Gluten-FREE cookies do not use wheat flour but a special gluten-free flour blend. Creating amazing gluten-free baked goods is a challenge that they took very seriously.
“Our Gluten-Free Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies are a proprietary blend of potato starch and two kinds of rice flour. We produce it special for our cookies. All of the commercially produced gluten-free flours are compromised, ours is not.”
What is in Corporate Cookies?
Most corporate cookies are made from low-quality wheat flour and artificial ingredients. The ones that do have a gluten-free option are usually made with unhealthy flours that are higher in carbohydrates that are lower in protein. So what you are getting is technically gluten-free but not good for you.
Their flours are “general purpose” flours (pancakes, cakes, biscuits, bread, pizza, etc.) that compromise taste and flavor. They are mainly tapioca and low-quality ingredients.
A good baker would never use pizza flour to make cookies. Bart & Judy’s cookies create their own in-house proprietary gluten-free flour blend.
“I tested all of the commercial gluten-free flours and none was satisfactory. Our flour is one-of-a-kind, made specifically for our Double Chocolate Chip Homestyle cookies. Smooth on the tongue like none other.” Bart said in a recent interview.
